Lean Article
Are you currently implementing Plus/Delta's at the end of your meetings? If not, I highly recommend you try implementing them and seeing the value they bring to your teams. The article below from The Lean Builder shares 5 Benefits of Doing a Plus Delta, and I believe there are even more that you will experience when you start implementing it.
Takeaway - This article builds off the podcast episode from last week, which I am sharing again this week due to the overlap in this topic. I challenge you to get deeper with your plus delta's and engage with your team. As a reminder, the most important part of a plus delta is that you actually follow up and take action on the deltas!
Lean Podcast
Last week's lean podcast is the same as this weeks due to the emphasis placed on plus/deltas. As I mentioned in last weeks newsletter, I was on a call with superintendents from across the country, discussing continuous improvement and working together to find how we can improve the industry. On that call Nick Clemens of O'Shea builders mentioned the podcast below and some of his key takeaways. It sounded like a great fit for this newsletter and I immediately downloaded the episode. The episode focuses on the idea of "If we want better results, we need to focus on better solutions."
Takeaway - The episode is full of great takeaways and actionable ways to get better. One of my biggest takeaways (and one that Nick mentioned as well) was the idea of bettering our Plus/Delta Sessions. How often do we only get to surface level ideas when we ask for plus/deltas. Topics such as "the food was good" "the room was cold" etc. How can we improve this process so we can get better feedback and thus improve the process? In this episode Victor talks about different ways to improve this process and get better feedback.
Lean Event
Are you looking for guidance and insight on how to take the lean lessons you learn week in and week out and apply them to your project or jobsite? Coming January of 2024, The Lean Builder is offering the Lean Master Class - A Builder's Guide To Applying Lean In The Field. This self paced Masterclass will cover the why and how when it comes to applying lean principles and tools in the field.
Takeaway - The Lean Builder is a book that really changed my outlook on lean construction and pushed me to want more out of our industry. I expect this Masterclass to build upon the lessons in that book and inspire a revolution in our industry. It looks like registration still hasn't opened for this Masterclass, but follow Lean Builder closely to see when it does.
